Support - Create Your Own Custom Sounds
You have three options in creating custom sound files for my boards. The first is covered in this page. The other two are
covered in the Create Voices submenu section.
1. Edit sound files found on the internet
2. Create custom phrases using an on-line text-to-speech site.
3. Record a friend or family member reciting each phrase contained in a game.
Below is a video to help you create your own custom sound files for my sound board. It shows you how to use Audacity to
convert a sound file found on the
internet to the appropriate sound file format. It also shows how to record your own voice for a sound file.
The file format you are going after is 44.1KHz, Stereo, 16-bit PCM, WAV file extension, and no Meta-data. The WAV player
on my board will not play any other format. It may take a bit to get your sound program configured for this format. If you
are having troubles, edit one of my WAV files and examine the format.
Some Tips:
1. When cutting up a sound file, use Fade-In on tiny parts of the beginning of the sound. This keeps the speaker from clicking.
2. Likewise, use Fade-Out at the end of a sound.
3. Insert silence at the start to delay a sound.
4. Try to keep all the sound files the same volume level.
5. Add some reverb to enhance a flat sound.
Be Careful with the MicroSD card holder on the little red board. It can be fragile. Bounce the card a little to take it out.
Do not force it. Use a high quality MicroSD card. Cheaper ones are slow which can cause distortion. Cheaper ones are also
just a bit different physical dimensions which will bind up in the holder and break it. I only use SanDisk and Lexar brand
MicroSD cards. I have had very few issues since using them.
Detailed Tutorial: Dave at the YouTube channel Dave's Think Tank has a great tutorial on how he created a
custom sound set for
his Flash Gordon. Check out his video. He demonstrates
his custom sounds at the end of the video.
